La Mirada, Calif.…LA MIRADA THEATRE FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS &
MC COY RIGBY ENTERTAINMENT
presents the first production of their 2008-2009 season of shows, SOUVENIR, written by Stephen Temperley, directed by Jason Edwards and starring Linda Edwards. SOUVENIR will begin performances on Friday, September 12 (with a press opening on Saturday, September 13) and will run through Sunday, September 28 at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts, 14900 La Mirada Boulevard in La Mirada, near the intersection of Rosecrans Avenue.
The Drama Desk Award-winning play SOUVENIR opens the season at La Mirada! Real-life eccentric heiress Florence Foster Jenkins fancied herself a coloratura soprano -- but the exact opposite was true! Despite being called “majestically awful,” her concerts in the 1930s and ‘40s, including a legendary appearance at Carnegie Hall, were not only sold-out but were attended by the crème de la crème of Manhattan society. Told affectionately through the eyes of her longtime accompanist Cosme McMoon, SOUVENIR is the sweet and inspiring, and yes, hilarious, portrait of a passionate music lover who believed that “what matters most is the music you hear in your head.”

Iris Berry, “Sirens: Five Femme Fatale Poets”
Iris Berry will be reading from her contributions to the anthology “Sirens: Five Femme Fatale Poets,” and will be joined by collaborators Pleasant Gehman and S. A. Griffin.
Definitely a femme fatale and something of an LA literary legend, Berry’s written work has previously been widely anthologized as well as published in her well-received book Two Blocks East of Vine (Incommunicado Press), and can be heard on her two spoken word CDs: “Life on the Edge in Stilettos” and “Collect Calls.” Gehman is the author and/or editor of six books, including the critically acclaimed Escape from Houdini Mountain (Manic D. Press). Griffin is a literary maverick, and co-editor of The Outlaw Bible Of American Poetry. A founding member of the touring performance poetry group The Carma Bums, Griffin’s work can most recently be read in Numbskull Sutra and Greatest Hits, both published by Pudding House Press. In 2006, at a ceremony held at Skylight Books, all three authors received awards from The City of Los Angeles for their continuing contributions to the artistic community.
